Address normalization
Addresses can be loaded into Network from different sources. Network uses a number of processes to ensure the validity of the address data; for example, address cleansing and data steward assessment. When addresses are sent to downstream systems, they can be used for different purposes and each system might expect addresses to have a specific format. To support requirements from downstream systems, Network has two address normalization features:
- Shipping address - Network can recalculate long US and Canadian addresses to ensure that the entire address is in a legible format for delivery. Some shipping vendors limit address lines to 35 characters so any other characters are truncated by the vendor's system. This ensures that a delivery person can see enough information to deliver samples.
- Address lines construction - Most downstream systems map to Address Line 1 only and expect it to contain the street name and number. However, when address cleansing occurs in Network, building or organization name is placed in the first few address lines and street number, name, and suite number are moved to the last available address line. To support downstream systems, Network reconstructs cleansed addresses to move street name and number into address line 1.
These features are supported for US and Canadian addresses only. They are not enabled by default. To enable one of the features in your Network instance, contact Veeva Support.
Both features normalize addresses during address cleansing, but they use different logic so only one feature can be used in a single Network instance.
Shipping Address | Address Lines Construction | |
---|---|---|
Differences | Address lines are truncated and wrapped when they exceed 35 characters. | Address lines are not truncated or wrapped. |
Commonalities |
Street number and name are moved to address line 1. Building and organization are moved to the next available address lines. |
|
Address conditions that trigger the feature |
- Address verification status is Verified, Partially Verified, or Ambiguous where street number and name are populated. - Address verification status is Partially Verified, Unverified, Not Verified, or Overridden. - Address lines 1 and/or 2 exceed 35 characters. |
Address verification status is Verified, Partially Verified, or Ambiguous where street number, name and/or building are populated. |
